CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's Public Employees Insurance Agency plans to review a recent decision regarding retiree coverage that has prompted threats of a lawsuit.

The agency's finance board has set a June 4 meeting to address changes made at an emergency meeting earlier this month.

The board voted to stop subsidizing premiums for retirees, starting with employees hired after this year. That vote has triggered an outcry from public employee unions, and vows of legal action.

Critics argue the board could not make such a change at the emergency meeting, given its limited agenda.

The board also voted to return 35,000 current retirees to its regular program if it cannot find another provider for its Medicare Advantage plan.

State officials support both changes.
